A Week Off Grid

Last week my wife and I kicked up our feet and relaxed on a Caribbean cruise. Since this is not a promotional blog, I will not mention the cruise line or travel agency, but I can say we got a good deal.

No Email, no Twitter, no Facebook. We had no forms of technology that could access the outside world. We did this vacation old school.

The first couple of days were tough as we missed our kids, I missed my daily twitter fix and I always have trouble disconnecting from work. After a day or two we relaxed and enjoyed life at its simplest form. We relaxed, watched shows on the ship, snorkled and just simply enjoyed each other’s company.

Benefits Noticed about being off grid week:

  1. No stress
  2. No depressing news stories
  3. Read a real book
  4. Lighter pockets ( no phones )
  5. Strengthened spoken communication skills
  6. No extra noise (lights, sounds and news)
  7. Time to think
  8. Quiet and enjoyable dinners

If you have not disconnected for a week. It is easy when internet usage is expensive and the actual access is terrible. I would encourage to try it just once to see life through a unfiltered lens.
